The box is running CentOs 5, this is occuring over ipv4. How can I tell the server to stop sending out packets with sizes greater then 1500? [...]

I have recently replaced a Fedora Core 3 server with one running CentOS 5 for the purposes of a mail relay in a DMZ. My problem is that when the server is sending messages to a particular remote organizaion, messages larger than 500KB don’t send properly. They seem to get hung up somewhere through the transmission, time out, then after the predictable retries, expire in the queue. Sendmail describes the problem as: MDeferred: Connection timed [...]

Our small company has rented a remote machine some 3 year ago. The machine is used as a company server, runs our email, web, source code repository, bugtracker, forum, wiki, etc. OS is linux CentOS 5.3, with Plesk 9.5 control pannel. I think both are too old. How complicated is to update CentOS to current version? What happens with Plesk in that case? Should Plesk be updated first? Or should we continue using CentOS 5.3? [...]
