Say you set up a Windows Server Failover Cluster consisting of two nodes, on Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise. Now when you want to configure quorum you can use either a remote shared folder, or a shared disk (unless your nodes are separated geographically). I’d love to know more about when to use a disk witness and when to use a file share witness. What are the differences? Does it matter at all? Asked by [...]Continue Reading »
Is there any alternative to Clusterssh, pssh etc? to manage multiple ssh based servers through one interface? one weakness in Clusterssh is that my servers use key based authentication, with passhprase to login, and there is no way to login to servers using the private key. Is there any alternative available which supports authentication with Private keys? Asked by Frank Take a look on Rundeck – http://rundeck.org/ Answered by Tom Check more discussion of this question. I have a Glassfish (3.1.2) cluster over 2 computers as nodes, with a mod_jk load balancer. Are servlet instance variables replicated perfectly? If not, how do I make sure it is? Are all actions, including method calls and disk writes, replicated perfectly? If not, how do I make sure they are? These may seem like stupid questions, but I’m not seeking “load balancing” as much as I am seeking exact replication to enable future upgrading [...]Continue Reading »
I have got 2 x HP DL360 G7 servers with the sc08 controller cards installed, and dual controller P2000 G3, the cabling is a single cable from each server to the controlelr cards (using SAS port 1 on each controller). I have got the disk array all setup and the vdisk is visable to each server as a 3TB volume, I formatted it on server1 and it was assigned the drive letter E. I rescanned [...]Continue Reading »
I am looking for some sort of clustered /dev/shm like device or RAM based, clustered filesystem, running on Linux, so it supports mirroring. Or there is anything stable enough which would do the job the same way? So I can replicate RAM based data? I would like to have it self-repairing (e.g. just restart recovers the service). Asked by Andrew Smith You could theoretically run drbd with the underlying devices being files on a tmpfs [...]Continue Reading »
What is the best configuration for a load balanced server farm for a high demand download web page that uses php and mysql. I have servers that currently use centos with lightppd. Has anyone got experience of what software is the best etc, or a good guide. Asked by user1074541 I use apache for my web server and it works fine. You have to install another package or service to acquire load balancing. I experience [...]Continue Reading »
We are running a WebLogic 10.3.4 cluster with three managed servers (nodes). We do not use session stickyness, but session replication across the cluster and everything is working fine. When trying to test our web application however, we regularly try to figure out on which node the user currently is (in order to find the correct log files). The JSESSIONID cookie has the format: sessionid!primary_server_id!secondary_server_id as specified in the official WLS Cluster Documentation. Is there [...]Continue Reading »

I have currently one Hyper-V Server 2008 R2 server installed, it’s successfully running 4 VM’s, but memory/RAM is starting to become sparse. I actually have a 2nd machine available, so my great idea was go ahead and set up a second Hyper-V server on the 2nd machine; to avoid buying more RAM and storage space, since the second machine already has RAM. Then I thought of one snag. I want to use one public-facing domain [...]Continue Reading »
In our departement we have a blade system with one master node and four slave nodes that are connected to the master node. The system uses its own subnet (192.168.1.x) and only the master node is connected to the intranet (and thereby to the internet). On every node runs CentOS 5. I would like to update CentOS (by using yum). How to update the slave nodes as they don’t have direct access to the intranet/internet. [...]Continue Reading »
