Domain Controller died, now get authentication boxes in IE for SDL Tridion 2009

We had a major network issue where our secondary domain controller (responsible for Win2k3 boxes) died and had to be rebuilt (I beleive this is what happened, I am a developer not network admin). Anyway, I am working remotely via VPN at the moment and since this happened, I am getting an authentication box when trying to access certain areas of SDL Tridion via IE (Tridion 2009 SP1 is IE only) it seems like somewhere [...]

Moving database to new server

I’m restoring a backup of a production database to a new server. The new server also hosts the application which makes use of the database. As such I’d like to use the same user/pass combination to connect to the database. The user is also included in the database backup so I thought that should work. However the user doesn’t exist as a (database) user on the new server. So I created a new server user [...]

Windows Command-Line Utilities Started Prompting for Password

Recently my computer started prompting for the password of my domain account (that I am logged on as) when running command-line tools such as tasklist or taskkill on remote domain computers. On other domain workstations, it does not ask for a password when running these utilities. For example: taskkill /s DomainComputer1 /im process.exe /f What policy or setting might have changed to do this? I know these are probably not related, but I checked settings [...]

SEO Consultant Wants System Credentials

An SEO consultant has asked (demanded) credentials to the web environment so he can do … Whatever it is that they do. I’m new to the company but an experienced Systems Engineer. I’ve just now been brought into this situation, but my reaction to giving him credentials is a pretty solid “No” unless he can provide a compelling reason, which is yet forthcoming. Before I was brought into this, he had been provided an archive [...]

Need prompt for credentials from computer outside domain in a domain network

I have a computer (Com1) which is connected to a network that is part of a domain (Dom1). On my Windows 2008 R2 server (Serv1), which is a part of the domain, I have a share called Program. The share is set up so that every user that is registered in and connected to the domain will have direct access when entering \Serv1\Program. However, Com1 is not a part of the domain yet, but it [...]

Protect SFTP Passwords

A number of non-technical users currently manage secure data with FileZilla on Windows. The SFTP credentials are broadly shared in the organization as a result. I would like to centrally manage credentials so that users cannot directly view them. With FileZilla, the credentials are stored in a non-encrypted file, Settings.xml. Is there an approach using any user-friendly, Windows SFTP client to centrally manage SFTP credentials and prevent users from directly having access to the credentials? [...]

IIS 6 prompts for creditials when on server, but not from client

I have a MOSS 2007 farm running on windows server 2003 R2 64 bit and IIS 6. When I try to connect to the farm locally on the server, no matter what site, CA or any of the SharePoint web apps I get prompted for creds and when I enter them everything is fine. But, when I connect from my workstation I am not prompted and my windows creditials get passed succesfully. The web sites [...]

Unable to specify alterntive credentials using 802.1x wireless connections on Windows 7

Using Windows 7 I am unable to connect to the wireless network using 802.1x settings. I have configured it exactly as in Vista using certificates and checking the use alternative credentials check box – however it just prompts for domain username each time and won’t let me specify an different username. I had a similar issue for my school network connection and followed the steps that were given on the school’s website. I would recommend [...]

RDP Connectivity to Windows Server 2003 Servers Intermittently Lost After Date Changes

Connectivity via RDP to our Microsoft Windows Server 2003 web and database servers unpredictably drops at varying points after we change the server dates. It usually occurs when we leave the server dates changed and remain logged in via RDP overnight. We can only restore RDP connectivity with a server reboot or a reset of the server dates to the current date. We use these servers for web application user acceptance purposes; moving the server [...]
