Forward emails from specific domain in Exchange
Our Exchange server handles emails for @ourdomain.com (for example). We have multiple clients that will send emails to our support@ourdomain.com email address and we want to configure server-side rules that will forward emails from each client’s domain to a different email address within our exchange server. For example: steve@client01.com sends an email to support@ourdomain.com and we forward it to client01.support@ourdomain.com phil@client02.com sends an email to support@ourdomain.com and we forward it to client02.support@ourdomain.com …and so on. So Public Folders – I’ve always come into an Exchange infrastructure whereby permissions are already configured and I’ve merely needed to add the odd user here and there on a public folder via Powershell to give them access. My question is – what is the default permission that would allow all users in Exchange access to a public folder, is there a group? i.e. A top level Public Folder with lots of folders beneath it [...]

In my environment I have setup Exchange 2007 in an CCR cluster, mirroring our main servers to a set of servers in passive mode. One of the partitions on the passive node that I have setup for the logs for Exchange 2007 has faulted, causing the partition to be unreadable. I have replaced the partition on the passive node, and setup the drive to mirror the one in active mode, but the logs are not [...]

When a resource room is reserved in Outlook (using 2003 with Exch 2007), it automatically is deleted (by Exch presumably) after six months. The scenario is this: At the start of each calendar year, our users will schedule recurring weekly meetings in Outlook for the entire year. But after six months, those blocked off times are shown as available users not included in the original meeting, even though it still shows on the organizer’s and [...]

I would like to upgrade our 2007 Exchange server from the initial release (RTM) to SP1, or if it makes sense to a later SP. I would appreciate an order of magnitude kind of estimate, is it an hour, 6 hours, a weekend? It’s running on a Dell Server PE 2950, with a Xeon 5130 CPU (2 GHz) with 4 GB of RAM. Windows 2003 SP2 x64. We have about a TB of disk running [...]

I’m running Exchange 2007 SP3 which is exposing outlook web access over only HTTPS. However the server delivers the sessionid cookie without the secure flag set. Even though I don’t have port 80 open, this cookie is still vulnerable to being stolen over port 80 in the event of a man-in-the-middle attack. It also contributes to a PCI-DSS failure Does anyone know if I can persuade the web server/application to set the secure flag? Asked [...]

My understanding is that the 250GB limit in SP1 is just a soft limit, correct? If I follow this article: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb232092.aspx and set the database to 260GB will that work to give me a little bit of time to work with Microsoft on this? I don’t really have any free space left on this logical drive (about 12GB). I also heard that I could move the catalogdata folder (indexing folder?) off this drive to help [...]

Today I tried to log in on my OWA (Outlook Web Access) account, and I get following error. I tried to initiate Remote Desktop Connection to restart services, but I couldn’t (I got black screen), and only thing I could do was to physically reset my server. This happens every 20 days, and I don’t know why! problem occurred while trying to use your mailbox. If the problem continues, contact technical support for your organization. [...]

I’m helping a small charity move away from an Active Domain setup. They will be using Google Apps and Dropbox to replace the main functionality and their new office will just have a router providing DHCP on a local subnet. What steps should I take to to convert the accounts on each machine from Domain accounts to simple local user accounts? Or is that even the best thing to do? I’m a Linux guy so [...]

I have to document our Exchange server settings. I dread the prospect of having to export every list and screenshotting every relevant “Properties” window. Is there a way to just export the (modified) settings to a file?
