Best practices for pagefile on an Exchange server with a large amount of RAM?

I was just looking through old notes for a pair of Exchange servers that I spec’d for a project a while ago at a previous job. They were for a fairly large organization with large mail quotas, so each mailbox server had 96GB RAM. The disk layout was: 147GB RAID1 for the OS, applications, and pagefile 1.2TB RAID 10 for the mail databases 900GB RAID 10 for the logs This seemed good in theory until [...]

Need to send mail from our FQDN IP

I am trying to wrap my hear around how I am going to get around this latest hurdle. What needs to happen: PHP script sends email to our Exchange Server …. Sounds simple right? Well the issue is that the LAMP server that has the PHP script on it is located in our office building, while our web server is hosted at a dedicated hosting company IP 65.xxx.xxx.xxx. When we send the email to our [...]

How to create a default retention policy in Exchange 2010?

I want to create a retention policy in Exchange 2010 (SP2), apply it to all existing mailboxes (and this is easy), and then have it automatically applied to all new mailboxes. Is this possible? How? Asked by Massimo You can write a script and run it daily (get a list of all mailboxes without a retention policy) or use a cmdlet extension agent to detect when mailbox is created and automatically assign a rentention policy [...]

Exchange Activesync policy – can I make it not required for a user?

Exchange 2010 sp2. I have a “C” level exec that wants to get his email on his android tablet. Easy enough. However, he doesn’t want any Activesync policy applied to his device for remote wipe, etc. not even the default policy, and doesn’t want to use OWA. I thought I knew Exchange pretty well, but can’t find a Powershell command or anything that will allow a device to connect without enforcing at least some kind [...]

Preventing ‘Reply-All’ to Exchange Distribution Groups

This is another question in a short series regarding a challenging Exchange project my co-workers have been asked to implement. (I’m helping even though I’m primarily a Unix guy because I volunteered to learn powershell and implement as much of the project in code as I could.) Background: We have been asked to create many distribution groups, say about 500+. These groups will contain two types of members. (Apologies if I get these terms wrong.) [...]

Exchange 2007 – Public Folder Permissions

So Public Folders – I’ve always come into an Exchange infrastructure whereby permissions are already configured and I’ve merely needed to add the odd user here and there on a public folder via Powershell to give them access. My question is – what is the default permission that would allow all users in Exchange access to a public folder, is there a group? i.e. A top level Public Folder with lots of folders beneath it [...]

One of our clients has been having problems where whenever an external email has multiple recipients on their domain, each recipients receives it a matching number of times (see below). To: 2 users (+1 gmail address); 2 emails per user [...]

See or count the amount of emails that a specific Microsoft Exchange mailbox receives

Is there a way to see or count the amount of emails that a specific Microsoft Exchange mailbox receives? I need to know on average how many emails one specific exchange mailbox receives per month. I can start counting from now, but I was wondering if there is an easy way to get these statistics. Thanks Asked by ICTdesk.net If you have Message Tracking enabled then you can track the messages a mailbox (user) recieves [...]

Exchange: How can you use an SMTP address other than your default reply-to from Outlook?

Our users have mutliple SMTP addresses in Exchange. We set one as their default reply-to. From Outlook (for e.g., I’m using 2010 64 bit in Windows 7), in the e-mail compose window, there’s a dropdown with all the user’s SMTP addresses: However, when I chose one that is not my default reply-to address, I get an error like the following: Delivery has failed to these recipients or groups: Recipient’s name You can’t send a message [...]
