How to keep file timestamp?

When I copy a file from a PC to an other, the copy doesn’t have the same timestamp as the source. I have the same probleme using either copy/paste or xcopy. The source PC runs Win2003 and the destination one WinXP, they have the same setup (time wise). How could I prevent that from happening ? or fix it afterwards ? Robocopy Should do this for you by default. It is also much faster and [...]

Open .123 Format File

Does anyone know how to open a .123 file? Apparently this is a Lotus Notes workbook? All we have is Windows Office… Sounds like a Lotus 123 (spreadsheet) file. I just checked and OpenOffice supports *.123 files. So, you can definitely use OpenOffice and import the .123 file and export it to a .xls file. Try using Excel first but if that fails, use OpenOffice. Check more discussion of this question. Bookmark on Delicious Digg [...]

Symlinks for common files

I’m trying to consolidate some website files on one of our CenotOS servers, the setup i want to create is something like this but i’m not sure if its actually possible we would have a set of files used by all sites: /home/commonfiles/ public_html/ library/ each site directory would look something like this: /home/site1/bespoke/ css/ images/ each “site” would use the public_html and library folders from within the common files. Symlinks would obviously work for [...]

Mysterious Word files!

I have a a simple file share server, which all my users use. After 3 years some has decided to tell IT that some strange files exist in the folder structure. They appear to be opened Word files but it seems highly unlikely that every file is open. It appears that all the files in question are word files of existing word files with ~$A-08_ at the start of the filename followed by an existing [...]

Limiting size on transaction log file

I am running out of space on my C disk. How do I a) reduce the size of the current log b) put a limit on it so it won’t happen again. Thanks! EDIT: I have changed my backup mode from full to simple. I read that this should stop the growth. Now how do I backup the log file which was created when my db was in full mode? It’s important to appreciate that [...]

NT Server: deleting files takes ages

i’m running an NT Server – when trying to delete eg. just one file – it takes several minutes (!!) until the file gets deleted. i’m only getting the deleting-dialog but nothing happens. any ideas what could be wrong? thx This can also be caused by a very full recycle bin, or deleting files from a directory that has way too many files, or a fragmented MFT (especially in NT4.0 NTFS). Check more discussion of [...]

Incorrect file creation date in Windows XP/Vista

Check this out: Create a new file on your Windows machine. Note its creation date/time. Delete the file. Wait a little bit. Create a new file on the same directory, with the same name as the previous one. The creation date/time of the new file will be equal to that of the previous one! I have verified this on Windows XP SP3 and Windows Vista SP2 x64. I find it hard to believe that it’s [...]

Disallowing access to certain file type in IIS6

I can do this just fine under Apache with htaccess / permissions. But at work its all M$ all the time… I need to lock off access to any .fla files that might come up. We keep them next to the few .swf we use on some of our sites, I just want to be sure they are not being served. Thanks! EDIT I should point out that I didn’t think I needed to mention [...]
