IIS Configuration changes break third party-app

I’m using a third party app build on asp.net. It runs on Server 2003/IIS6. I changed the way that app pools are recycled. After this happened the third party application stopped working. Specifically URLs that didn’t correspond to files in the third party program directory returned 404 errors. (I’m not that up to speed on how asp.net works.) What I mean is that if I go to a URL like example.com/thirdparty/page.aspx, when there is a […]

How can I update HTTP custom headers in IIS6 using Powershell?

I have the following Powershell script which uses WMI to update the HTTP custom headers on a website in IIS 6. The script seems to work fine, no errors generated, and the resultant $website object correctly shows the updated HttpCustomHeaders value. When I look at that site in IIS, though, the values have not been updated. This is also verified by visiting the site and looking at the headers in Firebug – the values are […]

Redirect https://olddomain.com to https://newdomain.com in IIS6

What is the easiest way for me to redirect both http and https from olddomain.com to newdomain.com regardless of invalid certificate warnings? newdomain.com is our current domain on IIS6 and has SSL (with certificate) for some content olddomain.com has a permanent redirect – but this won’t work for https://olddomain.com. It is a second website in IIS6. I’ve had problems researching this because most people are concerned about wildcard SSL certificates or the complexities of multiple […]

Identifying sites enabled for FPX in IIS6

We are running a server running a couple of hundred sites on a Server 2003/II6 setup. We’re looking to migrate as many of these users as possible to a Server 2008R2/IIS7.5 setup. Which of course doesn’t support our old faithful friend, Frontpage Extensions (IIS.net article on FPX End-of-Life). We’ve been looking for a way to highlight those sites which are currently enabled for FPX but haven’t found anything particularly obvious so far … does anyone […]

Moving my website to different server changes authentication from Kerberos to NTLM

I have a webservice that is configured for Windows Authentication. The client code that invokes the WS passes along the credentials to the WS as follows: myWebService.Credentials = System.Net.CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials; (my understanding is that this represents the username-password-domain of logged on user). I am testing configuration issues and confused about how to ensure Kerberos is set. DETAILS Follow: I have 2 virtual directories on the same IIS server (one is a “client” with .aspx pages) and […]

Java subprocess running from IIS6 returns exit value 128 and no stdout/stderr

I’m working on setting up a new server in a testing environment and almost everything works, but Java can’t seem to create a new process. Short version of the architecture: Windows 2003, IIS6, ColdFusion 8.0.1 MultiServer with JRun, everything is 64-bit*. A ColdFusion request calls some Java code that runs R (the statistical package) as a native process, captures the resulting stdout/stderr, and does some additional work with it. The Java code doesn’t seem to […]

How do I set Application Configuration Mappings in IIS6 from the command line?

I am rolling out .NET 4 to around 60 servers, and I need register the .mvc extension to run with ASP.NET on each server after the install. Does anyone know a way to do this from the command line? Is it possible? I looked at the aspnet_regiis tool, but it doesn’t seem to promising past installing/uninstalling ASP.NET. Thanks in advance for your help. The command line tool in IIS6 is c:inetpubadminscriptsadsutil.vbs. Just run it without […]

How to get list of sent emails in smtp virtual server in iis 6.0 on windows 2003

How to get list of sent emails in smtp virtual server in iis 6.0 on windows 2003 Enable logging. In the advanced tab (see article below), enable them all, and hopefully that will have the information you want to capture. Experiment with the results to refine what you need. If it is not enough, I am not sure what else you could do. It is a very basic SMTP mailer. Great article here: http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/Logging_the_SMTP_Service.html If […]
