How do I find out the W3SVC number of a given IIS7.5 website?

I have a server running multiple websites under IIS7.5. I want to view the log files for one website in particular. In C:\inetpub\logs\LogFiles I see a number of folders, W3SVC1 through 6. How do I find out which website corresponds to which folder? In IIS6.0 it used to tell you, but I can’t find this anywhere in IIS7.5. Asked by Liam The numbers on the folders correspond to the Site ID of each specific site […]

Web Deploy to IIS 7.5 on Windows 7 from Web Matrix issue

I’m struggling mightly with deploying from a web matrix site to my own personal secondary machine with IIS. I only seem to get “connection timed out” I’ve installed IIS, what I would imagine to be all relevant sub features, and ensure that the remote service is started and running along with Web Deploy. Yet I cannot seem to get anything to publish. I’ve followed the below article as well, but it doesn’t seem to be […]

IIS logging and incoming requests

When are incoming requests logged to file in IIS? Does it happen before or after they are processed and response is sent to the client? What happens in case if request is accepted but response isn’t sent back (is the incomming request logged to file in this scenario)? Asked by yojimbo87 The request is logged after the response has been prepared (you have the ability to modify the data that will be logged, under your […]

Windows Server 2008 r2 IIS: can’t allow access to file extension in request filtering

I have a Windows Server 2008 r2 installation with configured FTP and IIS. If I upload through FTP two files: “test.txt” and “test.abc” and then try to access these files through HTTP, then I can access only test.txt – then trying to access test.abc. results in 404. I found this link: File Name Extensions I followed the instructions to edit the Request Filtering. And denying works – if I set to deny “.txt” extension, then […]

Can installing URL Rewrite 2.0 on production IIS 7.5 have a negative impact?

We have a Windows 2008 R2 server with IIS 7.5 and a lot of customer websites. Being no sys-admin but a developer, I hate to touch that wonderfully running system. However, I’d like to update the IIS plugin URL Rewrite to version 2.0 via Web Platform Installer. I do not want to do anything that might compromise the server, hence the question: can I expect it to work with at least a 99% chance? I […]

Getting error when deploying webservice to iis 7.5

I’ve been ask by the programming department to test deploying one of their app. For all I know about the app, is that it’s a webservice wcf code c# for a wpf app. They did tell me that they did try to put the certificate directly in the webservice (to avoid the pain in the ass to register ssl certificate and save them in each client app). So far no problem with me. But there […]

IIS recover from HD Copy

i’m here on a new server and want to recover the IIS Role, the old server is as a backup (rsync copy) on a second drive. Anyone know how to recover the IIS from a Directory? The Server is a Windows Server 2008 R2 in a Domain. Asked by kockiren IIS7+ utilizes XML configuration files so recovering IIS is fairly straight forward. However, the easiest way if the old server is still online is to […]

How to rewrite these URLs?

I am brand new to URL rewriting. I am using an Apache rewriting module on IIS 7.5 (I think). Either way, I am able to do rewrites successfully, but am having trouble on a few key things. I want this pretty url to rewrite to the this ugly url: mydomain.com/bike/1234 (pretty) mydomain.com/index.cfm?Section=Bike&BikeID=1234 (ugly) This works great with this rule: RewriteRule ^bike/([0-9]+)$ /index.cfm?Section=Bike&BikeID$1 Issue #1 I want to be able to add a description and have […]

Smooth streaming performance

I have setup a streaming server on IIS 7.5 utilizing the IIS Media Services 4.1 extension. I have configured the streaming in a separate application folder with its own subdomain. I have other sites that that are located on the same server that connect to the media on the streaming server, but I point to the sub domain. Should I rather point to a IP v4 address? Will it improve/affect performance in any way? Asked […]
