Connecting to samba ubuntu server from linux

In these days I’m setting up a small network with about twenty computers. The users of this network used windows before (now they use linux mint) and they need to access samba ubuntu folders simply using their name (which is same as their login) and password (there’s no problem for them with typing access data). In that case I need the simplest way for them to access it. I was thinking of using links (I […]

How can I forbid DNS queries from an unwanted domain on my server?

Not sure my question’s title is explicit, so I’ll try and explain it the best I can. I have a dedicated web hosting server running Linux (Gentoo). There are a couple websites hosted on it, and therefore a couple domain names from multiple providers have their DNS zone settings set to point to my server. There is one particular website that used to be hosted on this server, but was then removed. However, it looks […]

/dev/* permission

I accidentally sudo chmod 666 /dev/*. And now many devices in my computer messed up. I have fixed some of them like /dev/shm, /dev/snd but I am not sure about the rest. What’s the correct permission for file and folder in /dev/* ? Can I restore it to the default value ? Asked by iKid In modern Linux systems, the /dev/ filesystem gets rebuilt at every boot by udev.
