Changing Network Path of Offline Files

Many of our users have their Home folder set as Available Offline. Their Windows 7 laptops will not be back on our network for a few weeks. In the mean time, we’re setting up new servers and reorganizing our files, so the network path to the Home folder is going to be completely different. Based on some testing I did, when the users return, any files they’ve created or modified while offline will be gone, […]

Backup Exec – Restoring Offline Files Cache

We have a set of mobile users who use Windows XP SP3 offline files to synchronize changes between network shares and their laptops. We recently had an incident where a user’s offline cache was not synchronizing and several weeks worth of changes were lost when the laptop was restaged. Prior to the restage a full backup was performed using Backup Exec 2010 which completed successfully. We assumed after the fact that the full backup would […]

Is it a bad idea to make roaming profile share available offline?

This is regarding a Windows 2008 R2 domain. The Documents, Desktop, Application Data folders are all redirected to users’ home directory (mapped as Z:). The users home directory is configured to be offline for mobile users. User profiles are configured as roaming, and located on a separate share (not mapped as a network drive), just accessed via an UNC path. Would it be a good or idea to make the roaming profile share available offline […]

Offline Folders, and Redirected Folders – Laptop cannot start up when disconnected from the network

I have rolled out Redirected Folders to a number of users to test, and everything seemed fine, until I noticed a laptop that was not connected to the network attempting to log on, and everything froze up. I am assuming this is because of the lack of network connectivity, but I assumed that offline folders will take care of that, as redirected folders are suppose to be automatically available offline. How can I ensure that […]

I am trying to get all users of particular notebooks to make the user’s H: drive offline. I know you can do it manually but is there a way to set this value somewhere so that users don’t have to do it themselves? I am running 2008R2 domain controllers and Windows 7 clients. I have folder redirection enabled but I want to make the users H: drive available to them when they are offline. I […]
