MS Project Server 2010 and Oracle Database Backend?
After searching far and wide across the internet for an answer I have come here in hope of help. I am aware that MS Project Server 2010 requires a SharePoint server, but does anyone know if it is possible to run Project Server utilizing an Oracle database instead of SQL? Asked by ZnewmaN According to this Microsoft document, Project Server 2010 requires MSSQL Server. Answered by MDMarra Check more discussion of this question. Bookmark on [...]

Can someone please point me to some tutorial or “how to” for configuring Jboss to work along with Oracle Data Guard. Motivation behind this is pretty standard, move some of the users to read from the “stand by” database. As this seems to be de facto industry standard i’m not have been able to find any tutorials and best practices on this. Asked by tropikalista In short all i needed was something like this. Key [...]

I have an application that connects to a database and retrieves information from it. The way it is written is: for every request received, create a new connection to the DB server and retrieve data. When testing, if the network cable is removed from the host, and reconnected, the application goes back to retrieving data normally. However, if the “connected” option is unchecked and rechecked to simulate a disconnection, the application cannot connect to the [...]

I’m running Django on an RHEL instance under Apache/mod_wsgi, and I’m having issues setting some environment variables for the Python process. All of the components (Apache, Python, mod_wsgi, external libraries) are built from source, not installed from the repos. The specific issue is support for Oracle support. I am able to connect to Oracle instances without a problem if I set the ORACLE_HOME and LD_LIBRARY_PATH on the command line when firing up Python myself, but [...]

So I recently updated an Oracle Database 10g from 10.2.0.3.0 to 10.2.0.4.0, as advised by Oracle Support, due to stability issues (a known issue under some systems where the instance would freeze randomly under high load). After applying the patch, stability problems are gone, but queries are A LOT slower because there are constant FULL SCANS on tables, even though I recalculated statistics for all tables in all schemas and the indexes are apparently OK. [...]

It seems our developers are concerned with the latency they are getting between their dev machines at site a and the database which is at site b. Ofcourse the obvious thing is to have as little as possible hops between site a and b and make sure we have stable and speedy internet connection. What else should be looked at to improve the latency? And what minimum spec network should they have between the developer [...]

I’ll skip my sob story and just say Oracle has weird licensing, and because of this I’m trying to see if I can avoid buying three new ESX host servers by downgrading from 12 cores (6 licensed processors) to 8 core (4 licensed processors). The servers have Intel Xeon X5675 chips now. What would the best 8 core processor to go replace them with? Also, has anyone else done this before? Asked by AndrewBurton I [...]

I am migrating from an Enterprise Edition of Oracle 10g to a Standard Edition of Oracle 10g and I was wondering if anyone has experience doing this. I’ve searched around and I can’t really find a definitive answer, but it seems like the features in Enterprise Edition will not smoothly translate to an import into a Standard Edition Oracle instance. Does anyone have experience doing this? So far I have just tried expdp on Enterprise [...]
