What does zfs receive -F do?

When I read man zfs for zfs receive I see -F Force a rollback of the file system to the most recent snap- shot before performing the receive operation. If receiving an incremental replication stream (for example, one generated by “zfs send -R -Fi -iI”), destroy snapshots and file systems that do not exist on the sending side. but I don’t quite understand what -F actually will do. If I zfs receive tank/pool then the […]

Rails/Mongo across multiple different geo-regions

I have a system that by necessity requires physical presence in three or more different locations and I need advice on structuring in such a way that my database stays replicated in a timely manner without horrible latency. I’ve seen mysql access and replication be incredibly slow when the application server was trying to talk to a node that wasn’t physically collocated. In this case I am using mongodb. The stack is linux/passenger/ruby/rails/mongodb. The database […]

Netstat shows Time_Wait in MySQL Master to master replication

During my master to master replication, I got a problem on telnet. After fixing it also my replication on both side doesn’t work. Master 2 replicates all the database of Master 1 but Master 1 is unable to replicate it. When I see “netstat” command on Master 2, it shows Time_wait. C:\Users\xxxx>netstatActive Connections Proto Local Address Foreign Address State TCP Master 2:3306 Master 1:55907 TIME_WAIT TCP Master 2:3306 Master 1:55908 TIME_WAIT TCP Master 2:3306 Master […]

DFS Replication on 2 existing duplicate shares

I have 2 sets of data in separate sites that are mirrors of each other. The 2nd set is a clone of the 1st set. However, the 1st set will be the live data and therefore will be changing going forward. We need to setup DFS between the two, with the second set acting as a receive only. This is fine, we can do that. My query is, when I initiate DFS, is it going […]

MySQL replicate multiple places

Very trick task to find a good title for this question, but here goes the q: I have a few development machines, where I develop my PHP applications on, and testing via a local webserver. This works out pretty well for each machine. However, I would like to replicate the DB from my machines to a central location. So, to sum up: DEV1 -> CENTRAL DEV2 -> CENTRAL DEV3 -> CENTRAL CENTRAL -> DEV1 CENTRAL […]

Any pitfalls for replicating MySQL to a remote server

Are there any pitfalls or gotchas for replicating (master->slave) MySQL DB to a remote server about 100ms ping away? Asked by Matthew Scragg Tons depending on what you want to do and what features you are using. The documentation points out most common things you should be aware of; especially the “features and issues” section. http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.5/en/replication.html Answered by bot403 Check more discussion of this question. What is and what is not replicated in a glassfish cluster with a mod_jk load balancer?

I have a Glassfish (3.1.2) cluster over 2 computers as nodes, with a mod_jk load balancer. Are servlet instance variables replicated perfectly? If not, how do I make sure it is? Are all actions, including method calls and disk writes, replicated perfectly? If not, how do I make sure they are? These may seem like stupid questions, but I’m not seeking “load balancing” as much as I am seeking exact replication to enable future upgrading […]

Is there an async FUSE filesystem for replication?

I have a low-power VIA x86 PC with one SATA port. I want to backup special files (ie: /var) from the SATA drive on this port onto a USB flash disk, but I don’t want a RAID1 or fully-synchronous solution for performance reasons. It is acceptable that data isn’t entirely 100% durable/reliable, but I am looking for something more elegant than rsync-ing every 5minutes in crontab. Asked by sadris You could use the lsyncd tool […]

How does a replicated DC handles w32tm changes?

We have 2 replicated W2K8R2 DC’s. I had updated one (DC1) with w32tm to get manual updates from asia NTP. Everything syncs correctly. My question: (In order to learn): How does this propagates to the replica (e.g. DC2)? Asked by Saariko See: What is Active Directory and how does it work? The PDC Emulator is also the server that controls time sync across the domain. All other DCs sync their time from the PDC Emulator. […]

mongod: automatically initiate replica-set

Currently I manually execute the rs.initiate() in the shell after starting a mongo primary or secondary machine to join the replica-set “farm”. Doesn’t the /etc/mongodb.conf allow me to define the initiate command to do this automatically when starting the service after re-booting? – Thanks for help Asked by ledy I don’t think so. But you shouldn’t need to initiate every time you reboot. Are you shutting down all of your nodes at the same time? […]
