sendmail config, making open relay

I’m trying to find a sendmail.mc that allows open relaying without username/password to any system (im testing some code that uses SMTP). Google’d, could not find and it has been a long while since I modified sendmail config! (it’s a private system for temporary use) Thanks in advance Asked by Aiden Bell Try FEATURE(promiscuous_relay) According to the doco, By default, the sendmail configuration files do not permit mail relaying (that is, accepting mail from outside […]

Need to send mail from our FQDN IP

I am trying to wrap my hear around how I am going to get around this latest hurdle. What needs to happen: PHP script sends email to our Exchange Server …. Sounds simple right? Well the issue is that the LAMP server that has the PHP script on it is located in our office building, while our web server is hosted at a dedicated hosting company IP 65.xxx.xxx.xxx. When we send the email to our […]

sendmail.mc to fwd all mails for a domain -> First.Last@gmail.com (MX record already set up)

I’m currently using Google Apps to forward mails addressed to recipients at my domain balkan-preferans.de (176.9.40.169) to my address First.Last@gmail.com – this is done by the following DNS-zone served by my hoster: $TTL 86400 @ IN SOA ns1.first-ns.de. postmaster.robot.first-ns.de. ( 2012100402 ; serial 14400 ; refresh 1800 ; retry 604800 ; expire 86400 ) ; minimum@ IN NS robotns3.second-ns.com. @ IN NS robotns2.second-ns.de. @ IN NS ns1.first-ns.de.@ IN A 176.9.40.169 localhost IN A 127.0.0.1 www […]

vCenter appliance won’t use mail relay server

tl;dr: – sendmail is configured to use a relay server but still insists on using 127.0.0.1 as the relay, which results in mail not being sent. We have the open source vCenter appliance (v 5.0) managing our ESXi cluster. When connected to it via vSphere Client, you can configure the SMTP relay server to use by going to Administration > vCenter Server Settings > MAIL. There you can set the SMTP Server value. I looked […]

Can’t Send Large Messages Using Sendmail CentOS 5

I have recently replaced a Fedora Core 3 server with one running CentOS 5 for the purposes of a mail relay in a DMZ. My problem is that when the server is sending messages to a particular remote organizaion, messages larger than 500KB don’t send properly. They seem to get hung up somewhere through the transmission, time out, then after the predictable retries, expire in the queue. Sendmail describes the problem as: MDeferred: Connection timed […]

Sendmail from domain to same domain

Since I separated my mailserver from the apache/webserver for the same domain, I worry about mails which are sent e.g. via php from the webserver to @same-domain.com. It’s trying to deliver the message on localhost although the email server (target) is another machine How to fix the route to get the mails delivered? Thanks Asked by ledy You just need to make sure that Sendmail on the web server does not think same-domain.com is a […]

Sendmail & IpTable Rules

I need to setup IpTable Rules for a server with nginx, ssh and sendmail. Now, the problem is, with my rules I can not send emails to other hosts anymore. Emails to localhost do work, but sending to different servers does not, when the firewall is up. I tried opening both Incoming and Outgoing Port 25 and DNS lookup ports, but nothing worked. Any ideas? Update: Here are my rules: #! /bin/sh # firewall iptable […]

Prevent mail server (sendmail) used to backscatter

Hi I recently got an email from Amazon, saying that my EC2 instance is sending spam. So what they say is my mail server is receiving email for a non-existing user and therefore bounces the email back without validating the source netrange. So to my understanding, some jerks are sending bogus emails to my mail server claiming to be someone else, and since the email delivery failed my mail server bounces the email back to […]

Sendmail Errors when Sending via PHP

I’m trying to setup a new help desk program (Kayako), but I’m having problems relaying the mail to our mail server. Here’s the error I’m getting: sendmail[2371]: NOQUEUE: SYSERR(apache): can not chdir(/var/spool/clientmqueue/): Permission denied I changed ownership on the clientmqueue folder to smmsp:apache with the same 770 permissions as it normally has, however the error still occurs. Asked by nojak So, I ended up starting from scratch, just to make sure I only had the […]

Sendmail doesn’t work with iptables, even though smtp and dns are allowed

I have sendmail installed on Ubuntu 10.04 solely for the use of the php mail() function. This works fine unless iptables is running (I’ve been using sendmail myemailaddress@domain.com to test this). I think that I have allowed SMTP and DNS (the script I am using to test iptables rules is below, in my version are the actual IPs of my hosts nameservers), but to no avail! iptables –flushiptables -A INPUT -p tcp –dport 22 -j […]
