How to access LVM partitions on OS X?

I need to access ext3 partitions over an LVM logical volume in a SATA HD connected through USB2 to my iMac with OS X 10.6 . Is it possible to see LVM volumes from OS X? How? Disk Utility says that the attached device is unknown and propose to initialize it. OS X Cannot read an LVM Volume, and there are no 3rd party drivers at the moment (or that I’m aware of) to do […]

What options are available to perform whole disk encryption with Snow Leopard

We would like to encrypt the entire disk of a Snow Leopard workstation running some sensitive file, database and web services. PGP does not yet work for 10.6, and we cannot use FileVault as it is not compliant with FIPS and would require non-standard installation of services. What whole-disk options are available that are known to work with Snow Leopard? It looks like the PGP WDE beta has opened. I’m beta testing it now and […]

Mod_rewrite (CakePHP routing functionality) forbidden after Snow Leopard upgrade

I am using the standard Apple-provided installations of PHP 5.3 and Apache 2 to do web development on a Mac Pro that I just upgraded to Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard). The upgrade went well enough, if I ignore the fact that it destroyed my ability to get work done. After the update, the CakePHP application I was developing started giving me 403 Forbidden errors when accessed. Based on the errors in the log […]
