connection to vpn fails (sonicwall client through linksys router)

I’m trying to connect to my office using sonic client and consistently failing. Actually sonicwall client informs me that connection to network is established, but when I tried to access one of the computers remotely using remote desktop it fails. Here is a sonicwall log: 2009/09/24 12:54:58:109 Information <local host> Renewing IP address for the virtual interface (00-60-73-ED-F9-E6). 2009/09/24 12:54:58:187 Warning <local host> Failed to renew the IP address for the virtual interface. 2009/09/24 12:55:03:359 […]

Odd Site-to-site VPN connectivity issue

I have two networks connected with a site-to-site VPN: Network “A” is 10.0.100.0/24 with a Sonicwall TZ-170 at 10.0.100.1 Network “B” is 10.0.103.0/24 with a Sonicwall Pro1260 at 10.0.103.1 Everything in “A” can ping everything in “B”, and everything in “B” can ping everything in “A” With one Exception: Nothing from network “A” has access to anything on the “B” sonicwall (no HTTP, HTTPS, SNMP, ICMP, etc.). Additionally, sonicwall “B” can’t ping it’s own lan […]

Install Sonicwall Global VPN Client without administrator credentials?

Does anyone know if it’s possible to connect to a Sonicwall VPN without the Sonicwall Global VPN client? I’m stuck away from work here in Liverpool due to heavy snow and can’t get administrator access to any machine here, so I can’t install the usual Sonicwall Global VPN client to connect to work! I’m running Windows 7 64 bit, if anyone knows any way I could get connected with or without the official Sonicwall client, […]

Sonicwall resetting connections (For no apparent reason)

We have a Sonicwall Pro 3060 that is transparently bridging traffic to the Internet and a VPN to another site. We are having connections being reset for no apparent reason. For instance, connecting Outlook to our Exchange server at the other site. Once every 2-3 minhutes on average, the connection is being reset, and Outlook looses connectivity. Through packet captures, I have confirmed that the Sonicwall is generating a reset packet, and sending it to […]

Modify SonicWALL Global VPN Client Encrypted RCF

Presently rolling out VPN to access to a small office. I am using a SonicWALL TZ-170 running SonicOS Enhanced 3.4.1.0-2e. I’ve created an encrypted RCF file for the clients to import into the SonicWALL Global VPN Client. Is there a way to provide friendly names for the “Connection Name” and “HostName” in the RCF file? If I create an unencrypted RFC file I can easily modify these values. Is there anyway to modify them in […]

Linux servers seeing bad download performance behind Sonicwall firewall

I’m working with a pair of co-located CentOS Linux servers sitting behind a Sonicwall PRO 2040 Enhanced firewall running in transparent bridge mode. These servers are having a strange problem downloading files more than a few megabytes in size. For example, if I try to wget or FTP a copy of the Linux kernel from kernel.org, the first ~1-2MB will download at 600+K/s, and then throughput will drop off a cliff to 1K/s. I’ve reviewed […]

Sonicwall TZ 210 Enhanced OS – Allow Wireless to talk VPN

Does anyone know how to allow the WLAN access to talk to a VPN subnet that is set up on a Sonicwall TZ 210 Enhanced? I got the WLAN (192.168.2.X) talking to the LAN (192.168.1.X), but I also need to the WLAN to talk to the VPN (192.168.3.X) Thanks! Actually this was exactly it and fixed my problem, just had to edit the existing VPN connection (for the LAN to VPN )to include a group […]

Increasing the DHCP range for a SonicWall Pro 300

Given a LAN with default gateway of 10.5.1.1 and subnet of 255.255.0.0 The DHCP range is currently set in the range of 10.5.2.1 to 10.5.3.254 The 10.5.1.x range is reserved for static IP’s. I want to increase the DHCP pool ( the 10.5.2.x – 10.5.3.x range is too small ) Is this DHCP scope limited to the 2.x and 3.x range because of the 255.255.0.0 subnet? I cannot change the subnet in this scenario. When […]

Improving VPN performance – stronger encryption = more performance?

I have a site-to-site VPN set up with two SonicWall’s (a TZ170 and a Pro1260). It was suggested to me that turning off encryption (so the VPN is tunneling only) would improve performance. (I’m not concerned with security, because the VPN is running over a trusted line.) Using FTP and HTTP transfers, I measured my baseline performance at about 130±10 kB/s. The Ipsec (Phase 2) Encryption was set to 3DES, so I set it to […]
