Allow non-admin user to shutdown/reboot Server 2012

Anyone know if a setting exists to allow a non-admin user to shutdown a server? Obviously I can set the “Allow Server to shutdown without logon” GPO but that is not quite the same thing. I am looking for a way to properly assign the shutdown right to a particular user if possible. Asked by NickC You can assign this in either a GPO or Local Security Policy. The setting that you’re looking for is […]

Apache virtual host configured with a sym-link to a folder in my user directory fails with 403 Forbidden

I’m sure someone has asked/answered this before but my search hasn’t helped me much so… I have Eclipse IDE installed on my Linux box (LM13) with the ‘workspace’ folder located @ /home/user/projects/workspace I have Apache installed and set-up, working with various vhosts all of which have their folders somewhere under the web-root /var/www/… The problem I’m having is that the vhost I’ve configured for a project in my Eclipse Workspace can’t be accessed by Apache, […]

How do you specify a User or Group for Client Remote Desktop Access?

Existing User in our domain can use RDC to take control over a Windows 7 workstation. When I create a user in Active Directory, an add them to Remote Desktop User, they cannot use RDC : The connection was denied because the user account is not authorized for remote login. I tried everything in vain, so I’m wondering if there is a limit to the number of users that can use the remote desktop control. […]

Running a batch script as network services on windows

On linux I know you can run files under different users pretty easily but on Windows how do you do it? Do I have to log in under that user? Can I run it with the schedule system? What is the advantage of not running as root? [closed]

Possible Duplicate: What's wrong with always being root? All modern brands of Linux highly discourage (or disable) one from running as root instead of a normal user. I do not understand why. As a “normal” user, one could Download a rouge program from the internet. Run it (After all, one isn’t root, what can it do). It installs itself in .bashrc or .xinitrc It writes a rouge “sudo” and “su” and adds . to the […]

how to extract all permissions that a domain user have on the network

I would like to know all the permissions a windows domain user have in my network. Is there a way, with a script file or a tool, that can extract this kind of information by checking all the servers and computers in my network? Limit which processes a user can restart with supervisor?

I have used supervisor to manage a Gunicorn process running a Django site, though this question could pertain to anything being managed by supervisor. Previously I was the only person managing and using our server, and supervisor just ran as root and I would use sudo to run supervisorctl restart myapp when needed. Now our server has to support multiple users working on different sites, and each project needs to be able to restart their […]

How to restrict user to a particular folder in CentOS 6?

I will need to create users so developers can log in and clone/pull/push changes/repositories from a github like platform. I’ve managed to add a user (using the root) to this CentOS machine; I now have this line in /etc/passwd: chris:x:32008:32010::/home/chris/public_html:/bin/bash ..and this in /etc/shadow: chris:$1$ruUeLtTu$onAY2hdu1J.UmHajEIlmR.:15385:0:99999:7::: I am able to SSH the server, I have permission to create a folder and I guess that should be enough. But I am able to see other files and […]
