Mimic Picture in Picture functionality

We are currently setting up a conference/meeting/voting system. There is a PC (Call it CompA) whose secondary display is the public display which shows information, voting results, etc. There is another PC (call it CompB) which a clerk sits at. I would like to be able to display CompA’s secondary display as a window on CompB. A point of note is that CompB does have an S-Video input. The main concerns are data transfer speed and […]

I have been a Linux user on and off for many years. Recently, I have been using it daily. I am looking for suggestions for media; commercial books, free information, online videos etc that will help me to understand the OS at a much deeper level. Your suggestions please. You will find several free guides at The Linux Documentation Project, guides page. This is a short list i pick from there, but you should scroll […]

Unicast video streaming on FreeBSD

I need to broadcast one live video stream from Windows machine (captured by TV tuner) to many viewers in the Internet. Because bandwidth is limited on this machine it should be forwarded to FreeBSD machine in datacenter and than forwarded to final viewers. I expect near 100-200 viewers watching simultaneously. So, the question is, what software recommended on windows site, and on FreeBSD machine? What pros and cons of different software? One of the options […]

Video hosting service with custom subdomain

On our website we want to have a link to a short video, couple of minutes long. We don’t want to host it on our own server due to our slow upload speed & also we want it seachable on a YouTube style service. We’re figuring as well we’ll get more hits on it from YouTube. The problem is our content filter currently blocks all video websites. If I unblock www.youtube.com so the video can […]

HTTP Adaptive Bitrate Streaming

Apple has included HTTP Adaptive Bitrate Streaming in the iPhone OS 3.0, in particular Safari handles this automatically. I’d like to play with this in a low cost manner, but I expect it’ll require a custom HTTP server in the worst case, and interesting PHP/etc scripting in the best case. But first I need to know what the protocol differences or standard is. HTTP is reasonably simple as a protocol, but adaptive bitrate means the […]

Sharepoint Wiki: Can you embed anything other than images and hyperilnks? Specifically, .swf?

Is it possible to embed anything other than hyperlinks and pictures in a Sharepoint Wiki? I was trying to insert a client-side .swf flash video, but I am having some trouble, since it seems that <object> tags are being removed. If I can’t embed .swf files, are there video file types I can embed (such as Windows media types) in a wiki? I believe we are using an older Sharepoint interface (Windows SharePoint Services 3.0), […]
