name-based virtual host – specify a domain name and also leave the ip address open

I have a domain name called dumbdom.com. I have an elastic IP for my AWS EC2 instance called my.ela.stic.ip. The htdocs root of my linux based EC2 instance is at /var/www/html/. I have set up the /etc/httpd/conf.d/vhost.conf file to direct the domain dumbdom.com to /var/www/html/my_dumb_app/ and that’s working Fine! The vhost.conf file looks like this: NameVirtualHost * <VirtualHost *> ServerName dumbdom.com DocumentRoot /var/www/html/my_dumb_app </VirtualHost> <VirtualHost *> ServerName blog.dumbdom.com DocumentRoot /var/www/html/my_blog_directory </VirtualHost> Now, I want dumbdom.com […]

How do I setup VirtualHosts to point two ports on same IP to different ServerNames?

I have set up the wiki software Gitit to run on two separate ports of the same Apache server (ports 1848 and 4000). I’ve confirmed that they are running. Now I want to proxy these two sites to prettier URLs, like sitea.com and siteb.com. The IP address for both is the same (say, 12.34.56.78). My server admin has added DNS entries for the names, but I can’t seem to get my Apache configuration to work. […]

Using Route 53 with EC2 Public DNS and Virtual Hosts

I would like subdomains of my EC2 Instance Public URL to point to different document trees in on my machine so foo.ec2-012-345-678-901.eu-west-1.compute.amazonaws.com has a separate DocumentRoot to bar.ec2-012-345-678-901.eu-west-1.compute.amazonaws.com My AWS EC2 instance has an elastic IP and a standard Amazon Public URL: http://ec2-012-345-678-901.eu-west-1.compute.amazonaws.com I can visit that URL and I see my Hello World test page. I’ve set up two VirtualHosts. <VirtualHost *:80> DocumentRoot /var/www/foo/public ServerName foo.ec2-012-345-678-901.eu-west-1.compute.amazonaws.com ServerAlias ec2-012-345-678-901.eu-west-1.compute.amazonaws.com </VirtualHost> <VirtualHost *:80> DocumentRoot /var/www/bar/public ServerName […]

Are there any tools for monitoring individual Apache virtual hosts in real-time?

I’m looking for a way to monitor and record Apache traffic, separated by virtual host. I am currently using Munin to capture this and other data for the entire server however I can’t seem to find a way to do this by vhost. This link describes using a module called mod_watch which is apparently no longer in development: http://www.freshnet.org/wordpress/2007/03/08/monitoring-apaches-virtualhost-with-munin/ The file that is listed as being compatible with Apache 2.x is reported to have problems […]

Apache 2.2 Virtual Host on Ubuntu

I’m new to Linux world and I’m getting stuck with the Apache version 2.2 Virtual host configuration. In my local /var/www I have 2 sites (and the default localhost) in their respective directories: /var/www/importer /var/www/foostore Importer is an importer for a Opencart installed into daxstore directory, which I’m developing. I want two distinct sites working so I’ve copied the file /etc/apache2/sites-available/default into the same directory two times, renaming it into “importer” and “foostore” and then […]

I got a site server.com which I want to be returned when it is directly adressed using server.com or www.server.com but issue a 404 if the webserver gets accessed using its ip or another hostname. I got something like the following: NameVirtualhost 10.0.0.1:80 <VirtualHost 10.0.0.1:80> #This should be used if Host is server.com or www.server.com ServerName server.com ServerAlias server.com www.server.com DocumentRoot /var/www/ </VirtualHost><VirtualHost 10.0.0.1:80> #This should be used alternatively RewriteEngine On RewriteRule (.*) – [R=404] […]
