Looking for app/service to silently capture file changes in website (like SVN but automatic check-in) for auditing purposes

Here’s the background to my question: A number of people deploy changes to our ASP.NET website … designers deploy HTML and CSS changes, .NET developers deploy ASPX, DLL files, graphic designers deploy images, etc etc. In theory all these deployments are done in a very controlled way – source code is maintained in SVN, deployment packages are created and version controlled, deployments are tested first on a pre-production site, deployments to live are documented. In […]

Web Deploy to IIS 7.5 on Windows 7 from Web Matrix issue

I’m struggling mightly with deploying from a web matrix site to my own personal secondary machine with IIS. I only seem to get “connection timed out” I’ve installed IIS, what I would imagine to be all relevant sub features, and ensure that the remote service is started and running along with Web Deploy. Yet I cannot seem to get anything to publish. I’ve followed the below article as well, but it doesn’t seem to be […]

Can I use Web Deploy to deploy a PHP application from IIS on Windows 7?

The Web Deploy 2.0 page on iis.net states the “Web Deploy Tool also enables administrators and delegated users to use IIS Manager to deploy ASP.NET and PHP applications to an IIS 7.0 server.” I’m (vaguely) familiar with using Web Deploy from Visual Studio to deploy an ASP.NET site. However I don’t see a way to deploy a PHP site via IIS Manager. The next page on Installing and Configuring Web Deploy states “The server must […]

Can not see “Manage Service Delegations” in IIS 7

I have installed Management Services on IIS, and want to configure for Web Deploy. At Server level I can see Mangagement Service, Feature Delegation, IIS Managers, etc I also have IIS6 management installed, but as this is a production server I don’t want to remove it just to check. Answered it myself. Used the Web Deployment Tool installer and clicked “Change” then added the IIS Management components. Now I can set Web Deploy service delegations […]

How to keep sessions when moving from one application server to another

Assuming I follow the steps in this answer to deploy a new version of an application without downtimes. When I route the users to the new application server instance, the application will not remember their session so they will be logged out without warning. Is there a way to keep the sessions alive over multiple servers or to make a “session snapshot” or similar? In my case it’s a Java application if that matters. Store […]

Cant deploy “war” file from Virtual Hosts, see a directory listing

This is my httpd.conf configured with Virtual hosts: NameVirtualHost *:80<VirtualHost *:80> ServerName http://foo.baz.in DocumentRoot /var/www/foo/ </VirtualHost><VirtualHost *:80> ServerName http://bar.baz.in DocumentRoot /var/www/ </VirtualHost> The second virtual host is a WordPress blog, configured with .htaccess, and index.php in the root i.e. /var/www, and rest of the files in wordpress’s own folder. However, the first virtual host is a “war” file, and when I goto foo.baz.in, I see the directory listing, containing the war. I also tried changing […]

WebDeploy 2.0 component on IIS7 – drive root permissions

I have installed and configured WebDeploy 2.0 on a (test) server so that WebMatrix and Visual Studio 2010 users can use this to upload their applications to our Windows 2008R2 environments. This works well with WebMatrix but I encountered a problem deploying an application from Visual Studio 2010. If I click publish and use the WebDeploy method, Visual Studio reports an error and nothing gets published: So I turned on Failed Request Tracing for the […]

Why don’t I have Deploy actions available in IIS 7 Manager?

I’m currently investigating options to script automated deployment of an ASP.NET web app. Using MSBuild I can create a package and import it manually or by script into a server running IIS 7. However, after reading instructions, such as Vishal Joshi’s blog about WebDeploy, I’m finding I don’t have the Deploy options available on IIS to try out. I have a Win2008R2 server with IIS 7.5 and have installed the Management Service (WMSvc) component. I […]

Transferring SQL Server 2008 R2 tables/data from dev box to server

I’m nearing the end of site development, and am now facing transferring my table structure and data from my development machine to the live server. SQL Server 2008 R2 is already installed and ready to go on the live server, so at least that’s out of the way, but I’m unsure how to proceed. Is there a build script, or something simpler than manually recreating the tables and inserting the data? And if there is, […]
