Preparing DNS for AD Domain Rename
So I am currently gathering information in regards to renaming our AD domain name from company.net to company.local. I am reading through the docs on technet.microsoft.com and It states that I would need to prepare the new DNS zones before executing the domain rename. The question I am asking about is regarding the _msdcs subdomain _msdcs.company.net I have read posts of forums where people reported issues after renaming their domain and not having the _msdcs [...]

We have 4-5 people technicians using a server and as they share a single user account, one person logging in ends the RDP session for someone else. Which would be a better practice – Using multiple account or allowing multiple sessions for a single admin user? Asked by Tineye Windows lets you have multiple accounts (and simultanious accounts) for a reason. Give each person an account. This will allow for better auditing of who did [...]

I’m using hMailServer 5.3.3, with only POP3 and POP3S protocols enabled. I can telnet to the server just fine, but I can’t seem to receive emails from anywhere (gmail, outlook) I don’t get any Mail Delivery msgs when sending, nor does the server log any connections trying to be made. The ports (110 and 995) are open (I’ve checked on online port scanner). When I run the server’s diagnostics tool, it prints the following: Test: [...]

Until this afternoon, I only knew ntp as network time protocol. But installed on our Windows 2008 server is a different ntp as shown below with ntp -?. I am looking for documentation above and beyond what came out in help. I want to send a duplex command to the printer. Any ideas or pointers to documnentation would be appreciated. For example, if you look at -@ as the first option, our MUNIS printing uses [...]

Possible Duplicate: Can you help me with my software licensing issue? We are looking to set up a virtualization environment. As I assume is standard this will include more than one physical server to run the virtual machines. As I also think is standard (I could be wrong, please correct me if I’m wrong) the servers will be in a master/failover type arrangement. Meaning the virtual machines will run on one, and if the server [...]

Is there an easy way to update over 1000 Windows hosts with an additional permitted manager? I have tools to remotely run scripts on hosts, but it is a little bit difficult to filter out specific hosts, and you end up having to type each hostname into the program then add it to a list of hosts to run the script on. I have scripts that will update permitted managers, and other SNMP settings in [...]

What are the minimal memory usage for Windows 2008 & 2012 server editions? I’m referring to all things OS-related. The machine would be a VM with a dedicated web server software, that wouldn’t rely on the OS (ie. no IIS, no domains, minimal local database) and wouldn’t use much memory (less than 50 MB), though CPU usage might occasionnally spike under load. I’m asking because there are options for hosting where you’re charged by the [...]

I’ve got a Windows Server 2008 Standard installation here that I’m trying to upgrade to Windows Server 2012 Server, using the evaluation version. (The scenario is essentially that I need to test the upgrade, and specifically the upgrade process, before we spend the money on going ahead with the actual upgrade.) When I try to upgrade, it fails with the message: “Windows Server 2008 Standard cannot be upgraded to Windows Server 2012 Standard Evaluation (Server [...]
