Host a simple website ON a wifi router?

I need to setup a wifi ‘guest’ access network that will automatically direct users to a website with a flash video. The website can either be hosted internally or externally. The goal would be to make sure the user can not access anything else until the video is done playing or for a certain amount of time after agreeing to the terms of wifi. Questions, any wifi router that can actually work as a web [...]

How do i create a ‘layer’ in between my router and a user connecting to it

Like when you go to starbucks the first thing you see if you go to their wifi is “Welcome to starbucks, please accept our terms”. Or also at most airports, it makes it impossible to surf until you accept their terms. Furthermore, what is this called? Is it possible to order routers with this pre-loaded on it, and how would I go about this? Asked by Tallboy The term for what you want is “captive [...]

Terrible ping times between wireless / wired subnets

I have a SonicWall router configured as follows: P0 = Wired LAN (192.168.1.1) P1 = Internet P3 = Sonicpoint WAP (192.168.5.1) P3-A = Private Wireless LAN VLAN 1 (192.168.6.1) P3-B = Public Wireless LAB VLAN 2 (192.168.7.1) If a computer is on P3-A their IP address would be 192.168.6.2 and their gateway would be 192.168.5.1 If I ping any internet site (google.com) I get sub 30ms responses. If I ping an address on P0 (192.168.1.4), [...]

How do mixed wireless clients (b/g/n) effect total throughput of an access point?

Say you are planning a network based around access points that support the full range of 802.11 protocols on 2.4Ghz(b/g/n). How will a mixed set of clients effect the total throughput possible through the access point? For example, say we have the following scenario: 1 Access Point 1 b client with an 11 Mbps connection transmitting 5 Mbps 1 n client with a 135 Mbps connection can transmit ? Mbps Can the second client transmit [...]

Is it possible to determine WiFi type with a Linux / Mac command?

At the co-working space that I am in, there are a number of wireless access points around. However, there is one that only some of us are able to connect to. We suspect it is because the access point is running on a wireless network that one of the machines does not support. Out of curiousity, I got to wondering: Is there some command line utility to tell whether a wireless network is a, b, [...]

How to automate DNS server reconfiguration for TCP/IPv4 and TCP/IPv6 in Windows 7?

I need to switch Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) settings for DNS server configuration from “Obtain DNS server address automatically” to hard coded values (for Google’s DNS servers) and back. It’s kind of a hassle to do manually (I need to go to Control Panel-Network and Internet-Network Connections, open Wireless Network Connection 2, then open Properties for the corresponding version, enter the DNS server values, and repeat for the [...]

Advise on a 240,000 sqft outdoor wireless network

I’m looking for an idea of what qualities to look for in the equipment for a wireless network that covers the entire area of an outdoor arena. The area is rectangular-ish in shape. 400ft wide and 600ft long. It has 6 light towers, 1 on each of the 400 foot ends and 2 on each of the 600 foot ends. I can mount on anything and spend as much money as needed. The needs of [...]
