How to makesure VM is in Para virtualization mode on XEN?

I am having a server running XEN,with ubuntu 12.04 as Domain 0. Intel VT is turned on by default and i dont want to run any Windows OS as VM. So 1. how can i makesure that all the created VM will be in paravirtualized mode even with VT enabled? I have heard that in Full Virtualization hypervisor needs to work hard for emulating all the underlying hardware, which may reduce performance for too much i/o [...]

can xen server be configured to address more than 4 GB for host machine

Can xen server be configured to address more than 4Gb RAM. Since its based on a 32 bit kernel,is it possible to address more than 4GB ram.I have heard about PAE can it solve this? Will changing the default 750M to more than 4Gb results in any performance degradation? The only reason i want to add more ram to host is to load a 5 GB VM to completely run on RAM,for maximum performance benefits, for [...]

CentOS will not boot. Error 13

I am having trouble with one of our CentOS servers. I migrated this server to XenServer, installed a new xen kernel, and performed a mkinitrd with: mkinitrd –omit-scsi-modules –with=xennet –with=xenblk –preload=xenblk initrd-2.6.18-308.4.1.el5xen-no-scsi.img 2.6.18-308.4.1.el5xen Now I am getting an error 13 on boot. Screenshot: http://postimage.org/image/k7js0l41v/ I can still boot with the PAE kernel. Does anyone have any idea on how to resolve this? My Grub file looks like: default=0 timeout=5 splashimage=(hd0,0)/grub/splash.xpm.gz hiddenmenu title CentOS (2.6.18-308.4.1.el5xen) root [...]

Ubuntu server 12.04 on XenServer 5.5 – Won’t boot from iso

I can’t get the Ubuntu server 12.04 ISO to boot in XenServer 5.5. It is not a problem with the ISO or the share because I have used the iso to install locally and I can install other ISOs from the same share. I imagine it has something to do with the template because one isnt installed for this version of ubuntu. I am creating the VM using “Other install media” as the template. Asked [...]

Xen hypervisor maximum domu support [closed]

Can anyone please let me know that what are Xen Hypervisor 4.x limitations. How many virtual machines i can create with what memory and cpu? Asked by User4283 I think according to the docs the limits are a little higher with OracleVM than on “plain” Xen, but this is best checked in the Xen wiki. Highest I’ve tested was around 200 domUs iirc, there was no problem. Note you might have to tune the xen [...]

XP vm disk benchmark on xenserver 5.6

While benchmarking the disk on a Windows XP VM under XenServer 5.6 I get a peak for a couple of seconds to 200 something MB/s before it drops back to an average of 30 MB/s. Is this normal? My configuration is: HP blade server BL460 with 1 quad-core intel xeon processor (2.66GHz), 24 gb rams, and two 300GB 10K SAS SFF hard drives forming a raid 1 array. My dom0 has 10 XPs and 2 [...]

xenserver 5.6 on on raid 10 array

We’ve always had performance issues with our Xenserver 5.6 and ive asked a question here about it and still didnt manage to get it resolved (http://serverfault.com/questions/231661/xenserver-vms-continous-temporary-lag). Since this appears to be a storage thing not being able to put up with 10 XP-SP3 and 2 W2k3 VMs, we got one storage blade for each of our BL460 servers to provide with DAS hence each server will have 4 instead of 2 SAS 10k drives. My [...]
